INSIDE MOVEMENT KNOWLEDGE

Isn't dancing irrational, instinctive and emotional?

Inside Movement Knowledgeis an interdisciplinary research project into new methods of documentation, transfer and preservation of contemporary choreographic and dance knowledge (2008-2010).

How can we implement the results of dance research via digital media in other fields? What kind of information can you derive from the process of dance transmission?

With these two research questions, we initiate Inside Movement Knowledge, a continuation of the Notation Research Project, the research of Emio Greco | Pieter C. Scholten into systems for capturing and transferring the essential elements of their creative work. The results were presented (October 2007) in the form of an interactive installation, a book, a documentary and the interactive DVD Capturing Intention.

This project is a collaboration with the Amsterdam School of the Arts (lectureship: Art Practice and Artistic Development), the Netherlands Media Art Institute (NIMK), the Media and Cultural Studies Department of Utrecht University (as part of the new Theatre Science programme), the dance courses of the Amsterdam School of the Arts and an international partner network (IAN).
