Lois Alexander

Lois Alexander (US, 1991) was born in California and is of African American, Filipino and Chinese descent. She received her dance training from The Ailey School and The Juilliard School. In 2014, Lois graduated from Juilliard with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance. Since 2014, Lois has been living in Europe and has worked with amongst others Stijn Celis, Christoph Winkler, Romeo Castellucci and Susanne Linke. While Lois is a collaborator and performer in different productions, she is also engaged in developing her own work as a choreographer and teacher. With her choreography, Lois is inspired by what Tina Campt describes as ‘textured identities’ and hopes to use the embodied nature of dance and performance to articulate an in-between, migratory state from a black feminist perspective.

In 2019, Lois Alexander started with the creation of Neptune during the New Adventures Residency at Dansmakers Amsterdam. The work was expanded to a full-length performance during her 3 Package Deal development year with support from Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst and in co-production with Dansmakers Amsterdam and Sophiensæle Berlin.

Neptune has been selected by the Aerowaves network as one of the top twenty best 2021 European performances of emerging artists.
