Community project

We Dance Together is a community-focused project of Space for Dance Art / ICK Dans Amsterdam. One evening a week, you get to work with a choreographer/theatremaker.

Space for Dance Art opens its doors to the community and both avid movers and enthusiasts get the opportunity to work with dance and movement under the guidance of a known choreographer/theatre-maker connected to ICK Dans Amsterdam.

From monday Septmeber 16^th, a new edition of We Dance Together will start under the guidance of Ummi Yanuba. The serie of eight workshops will take place from September 19^th to November 4^th, every Monday evening between 7:30pm and 9pm at ICK's Space for Dance Art in Amsterdam.

During this edition of We Dance Together 2024 #3, you will be introduced to Ummi's practices and methods. The workshop series will conclude with a small presentation or open workshop for friends, family, and others who are interested. Ummi will share her 'The Explore practice' with the group of participants.

We Dance Together is suitable for all dance enthusiasts aged 15 and up (no upper limit!).

WE DANCE TOGETHER 2024 #2 - Ummi Yanuba

We Dance Together 2024 #2 will be led by contemporary dance artist Ummi Yanuba with her own The Explore Practice.
The Explore Practice creates a safe space with in-depth movement to create new perspectives and connections inside and out. Together with Ummi you will explore new entrances into movement and connect to the space around and inside us in different ways.

WE DANCE TOGETHER #3 & #4 - Rosanna ter Steege

Rosanna ter Steege (1986) is half Moluccan, half Dutch. Growing up within two cultures has given her roots. She studied Danstheater Uitvoerend at the Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunsten and has since worked as a freelance dancer and maker in the world of the arts.

WE DANCE TOGETHER #2 - ROAD Collectief

ROAD Collective stands for connection: recognising and acknowledging each other and learning from each other, being open to each other, being curious about the unknown of the other. ROAD's goal is to make art accessible to young audiences through interdisciplinary performances. Thus, ROAD is engaged in creating a platform for hip-hop dance theatre to build a bridge between the different worlds,cultures, perspectives and ways of thinking of human beings. ROAD Collective is supported through the Next Best Fringe residency, for the development of their performance Onbedoeld verberg ik that has played at the Amsterdam Fringe Festival in 2021 and 2022.

WE DANCE TOGETHER #1 - Charles Pas

Charles Pas (Belgium, 1998) is a creator of physical, visual theatre performances. For him, movement is the way to address audiences directly on their experience and feelings. In his performances, he searches for forms and narratives that touch and represent the existential dilemmas of today. His work moves somewhere between performance, absurd theatre and magical realism. His work takes us into a timeless no man's land. Charles Pas creates theatrical translations of his characters' inner worlds by playing with dream and reality. He depicts emotional non-linear quests marked by melancholy, humour and the urge for the unknown. His performances are always an ode to the transitory nature of performance and theatre: the spectator is part of a palpably fragile, sensory perception that exists only in that moment. Thus, each time he unveils something of the present condition humaine. The main dualities in his work are utopia and dystopia, chaos and control, victim and aggressor, connection and displacement.
