FRA : AI, Creativity & the Body in Revolt

PREMIERE - open days in Amsterdam

Onder de noemer FRA (Italiaans voor ‘tussen’) organiseert ICK vanaf 2013 bijeenkomsten waar het intuïtieve lichaam ter discussie wordt gesteld door provocatie en tegenspraak. Tot nu toe altijd nomadisch maar vanaf 2022 met regelmaat op de nieuwe plek van ICK: Space for Dance Art. Uiteenlopende kennisgebieden en disciplines worden uitgenodigd om hun licht te schijnen op de kracht en kwetsbaarheid van het lichaam. De bijeenkomsten zijn voor een breed publiek die geïnteresseerd zijn in dans, in beweging of gewoonweg in de fictie van het lichaam. 

Deze editie van FRA vindt plaats in het kader van de PREMIERE EU-project Open Dagen in Amsterdam 19-21 september. Met uitgenodigde sprekers, het PREMIERE consortium en het publiek willen wij een kritische dialoog tussen artistieke praktijken en de technologische sector initieren. Welke creatieve en ethische dimensies komen tervoorschijn als wij het intuïtieve lichaam in relatie tot de nieuwste ontwikkelingen in AI-technologieën positioneren?

PROGRAMMA

18:30 – 19:00: Welcome, walk-in

19:00 – 19:05: Introduction by Suzan Tunca and Erik Lint

19:05 – 19:20: Kim Baraka: What is embodied and disembodied AI? What is the role of artistic practices in AI/robotics development and what is the role of science in informing embodied (artistic) practices?

19:20 – 19:35: Julia Rijssenbeek: Why is reducing biological life (incl. the human body) through technological control and calculation limited? How can artistic practices inform our thinking about (human) life, the envrionment and technology?

19:35 – 19:45: Presentation Cobalt project: what about human agency?

Short break

20:00 – 20:15: EU Project Replay introduction/impression

20:15 – 20:35: Conversation between Erik Lint (Head AHK ID Lab) and Emio Greco (artistic director ICK Dans Amsterdam together with Pieter C. Scholten) about the intuitive body en creativity

20:35 – 21:00: Q&A and discourse with audience

Over de sprekers

Kim Baraka

Kim Baraka has a dual career as a scientist and artist. In his scientific work, he is an assistant professor of Artificial Intelligence and Human-Robot Interaction at the Vrije Universiteit, whose work aims achieving a future with mutual and beneficial human-robot relationships. In his artistic work, he is a professionally trained dancer, specialized in contemporary dance improvisation methods. As a researcher, he is part of the Hybrid Intelligence program, that collaborates with the program Ethics of Socially Disruptive Technologies.

Julia Rijssenbeek

Julia Rijssenbeek works at the intersection of philosophy, technology, and biology, currently focusing on the philosophical and ethical consequences of synthetic biology. She is a PhD researcher in the Ethics of Socially Disruptive Technologies at Wageningen University, future researcher at the Amsterdam-based think tank FreedomLab. In her research, she collaborates with artists snd designers, for instance in the ‘Bio Art Design Award’, in ‘BIO.STORIES’ on future narratives on our life on earth, and in experimental shorts and visual philosophical essays.
