Performative Lecture: The Intuitive Body

In this performative lecture, intuitive insights derived from documentation research into the choreographic language of Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten are brought in dialogue with philosophy, psychology, art theory, religion and the archiving of the intangible cultural heritage of dance and theatre with the newest technologies in the context of the large scale EU Project Premiere (Performing Arts in a New Era).

The lecture by Suzan Tunca ( head ICK Academy, researcher dance and nominated for a Swan most impressive dance performance in 2007 ) will be enriched by performative interventions danced by Maria Ribas ( nominated for a Swan most impressive dance performance in 2020 ).

Biography - Suzan Tunca

Suzan Tunca (1975) is head of ICK Academy, dance researcher and PhD candidate at the Universteit Leiden. She studied theater dance at the art academy in Arnhem (1994-97). Since 1998 she has worked as a dancer, choreographer and choreographic assistant at home and abroad, including with Krisztina de Châtel and Dylan Newcomb. Between 2005-2013, she danced with Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten. In 2015, she completed a research master's in artistic research at the University of Amsterdam with a video work and live performance at the Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam. Tunca is currently responsible for dance research activities at ICK, the development and implementation of the artistic research curriculum for dancers at CODARTS and she is a member of DASresearch THIRD. Through her work as a dance researcher in professional and educational contexts and as a performing artist, she aims to contribute to the ongoing regeneration and advancement of dance as an autonomous art form and as an invaluable resource for embodied knowledge and understanding.

Dancer - Maria Ribas

Maria trained at Ginasiano Escola de Dança where she had the opportunity to complete a number of international courses with different dance companies. She completed her pre-graduation in 2015 with the National Dance Conservatory of Lisbon, Portugal. In 2016, Maria graduated from Ecole Supérieure de Danse de Cannes Rosella Hightower, Mougins France. Upon graduation she began working as a professional dancer with BNM. In 2019 Maria started a Master’s in Scenic Arts at NOVA University, Portugal. During this time she worked as a freelancer with Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten. From 2020 to 2022, Maria dances with the Ensemble of the ICK.

In 2021 she has been nominated for the Swan award for her performance in Sweet Like a Chocolate. Maria’s favourite type of music is rock, alternative, electronic and techno. If she were not a dancer, Maria would like to do something related to art or the social sciences.
