Space for Dance Art

From September 2021 ICK Dans Amsterdam will be housed in the iconic Westbeat building in Amsterdam. In collaboration with artists from various disciplines, the dance company will set up a Space for Dance Art, where performances, workshops and symposiums will be organised on the basis of artistic drive. The building will also house a media library that will be open to the public. ICK has long sought a space where dance and movement can nestle in the city as an art form.

On Saturday 11 September, the ICK Space for Dance Art will be opened privately in the presence of Ms Touria Meliani, Alderman for Art and Culture and the Nieuw-West district council. The various spaces will be inaugurated with the exhibition The Intuitive Body. The exhibition consists of a combination of objects on display, a film by Bogomir Doringer, a video installation by Ruben van Leer and Harmonic Dissonance, an interactive research project at the intersection of art and technology. WE, the BREATH will also be on view, a new performance created with both the dancers of the ICK Company and the young dancers of ICK-Next who have only been with the company for four weeks.

ICK's mission is to contribute to a better world by giving a stage to the intuitive body, a concept that is central to the vision of Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten, ICK's artistic directors. They have been working together for over 25 years on a repertoire, research and a dance method.

ICK believes that the intuition of the moving body is an essential part of our lives, which can provide answers to the complexity of society. Intuition and creativity are needed more than ever these days. With this in mind, ICK enters into collaborations with artists, scientists and the business world.
